Congressman Timmons: Your ‘uncured’ bacon is a lie - and the USDA is forcing meat companies to tell it

Congressman William Timmons has today written for the Washington Examiner.

In his piece Timmons, who represents South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, says:

"Nobody is coming for your bacon. The case for honest labels is not a case for banning anything — and consumers understand the difference. Poll after poll shows broad support, across party lines, for precisely this kind of reform: not prohibition but information. The fix fits on a label — which is fitting, because that’s all anyone is asking for. If a product contains nitrites, from any source, say so. Reserve “uncured” for products that are actually free of them. FSIS has already done the hard part by recognizing the problem. Publishing the proposed rule this summer would finish the job — and give shoppers labels they can finally take at face value."
